The Australia-Latin America Business Council was established in 1989, with the objective of promoting the development of closer commercial links between Australia and the countries that comprise the Latin American region. The Council is a private, non-profit company, whose membership comprises individuals and companies from all business sectors and from throughout Australia. It is the leading reference point for those persons wanting to benefit from the wide range of business opportunities that Latin America has to offer Australia. The principal objectives of the Council are: To promote and encourage trade and investment between Australia and Latin America. To provide members with the opportunity to network with persons who have an interest in or are involved in doing business with markets in Latin America. To represent the interests of Australian business in all matters relating to the development of trade and investment links between Australia and Latin America.

His assignments with multinational companies brought him to work and live in over 35 countries. His multi-awarded PhD thesis provided him with several roles in Research and Development at scientific institutions in USA and Australia. After migrating to Australia in 1997, Robert continued his career path in the mineral industry with major players, such as Rio Tinto, WMC, Newcrest and Inco.More recently he joined Australian Business Ltd as an export and investment consultant to the mining technologies and services sector with business activities in South America.

Deputy chair of the Council on Australia Latin America Relations since 2001. Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand of Banco Santander SA since 1990. Other positions held include: member of the executive committee of the Australia Chile Chamber of Commerce 1991-2000; member of the Advisory Council of the Institute for International Studies of the University of Technology, Sydney 1997-2001. Awarded the Spanish “Orden de Merito Civil” in 1992; the Chilean “Orden de Bernardo O’Higgins” (Comendador Class) in 1995; and the “Orden Olímpica” by the Spanish Olympic Committee in 2001. Jose Blanco is in charge of the Banco Santander operations in Australia and New Zealand, with a base in Sydney. Prior to joining Santander in 1990 to set up its Australian office, Jose worked as a lawyer from 1981. Jose has a detailed knowledge of the cultural aspects of Australian and Latin American companies working together, and is at the forefront of building business links between these markets. In addition to his role as Chair of the Australia-Latin America Business Council, he serves as Deputy Chair of the Australian Government’s Council on Australia Latin America Relations and as a member of the Australian Industry Group’s Australia-Chile Bilateral Business Committee. She lived in Singapore for 7 years where she concluded a Bachelor of Laws Degree - LLB from the University of London. In Australia she graduated with a Diploma on Corporate Law from the University of Sydney and since 2000 has been the founder and a director of SalDoce Fine Foods specialized in the development and technology of health and functional products. She is also a director of Braust Pty Ltd, specialized in assisting companies in trading with and establishing their businesses in Brazil. She is President of the Australia-Brazil Chamber of Commerce since 2003 and a director of the Council on Australia-Latin America Relations (COALAR). He is the former Director of Education City Queensland. Prior to that he has held senior management positions at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) and the Melbourne Business School (MBS) where he successfully spearheaded the foray into a number of Latin American markets. Previous experiences include Head of Research at a global executive search firm working in New York and Frankfurt. Thomas also served at the DFAT / COALAR Latin America Education Action Group (EAG). Following 20 years in the global wool arena, encompassing procuring, manufacturing and marketing throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. Michael BSc degree in Agriculture, focussed on Animal Science, and has lived and worked in Australia, New Zealand, the Americas and Europe. He has also travelled extensively throughout Asia and the Middle East for the wool textile industry. He grew up in Argentina and speaks fluent Spanish and French. She is currently Director, Business without Borders, and specializes in helping companies to become more globally competitive. Because of her work, she has a well developed network of business and government contacts in Australia and overseas. Director - Marcelo Salas Australia Chile Chamber of Commerce In 1984 Marcelo Salas joined the International Economic Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. Holding the position of Head of the Asia Pacific Department, within the Bilateral Economic Division until 1986, when appointed Manager of the International Trade Fairs Department of the Chilean Trade Promotion Organization (ProChile). During 1987 to 1994 he was posted as Head of the Economic and Commercial Department of Chile in Sydney, Australia. Since October 2004 until January 2010, Mr. Salas hold the position of Senior Trade Commissioner for Australia and the Pacific Islands. He was responsible for export promotion, assisting Chilean companies establishing presence in Australia as a springboard to Asian markets, with primary concern in process foods, mining and agriculture equipment and forestry products. In this capacity, he was also part of the team that negotiated the FTA between Australia-Chile.
He is currently the President of the Australia-Chile Chamber of Commerce. Director - Paul Bradley Australia-Mexico Chamber of Commerce Director - Mark Spurr Individual Member Qualifications B.Bus, FAICD, FCIS, ASA Latin American business experience includes managing Goodman Fielder’s food ingredient businesses in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, USA and joint ventures in Columbia and Ecuador and subsequent involvement with the region as Managing Director of Meat and Livestock Australia. Previous directorships include the Australia Japan Business Council, the International Meat Secretariat and Treasurer of the Australia Brazil Chamber of Commerce. Director - Paul Flynn Ernst & Young Paul is a foundation director of the Australia Latin America Business Council and has been involved in advising businesses trading between our regions for over 15 years. Paul is also the Managing Partner of Ernst & Young’s Sydney office and has worked for Ernst & Young since 1993. As a highly experienced practitioner in the Minerals, Energy and Utilities industries, Paul has practiced as a Mining Assurance partner for most of his career covering bulk commodities, precious metals and downstream processing across our largest mining clients and the entrepreneurial mining sector. It was this focus on mining that originally drove Paul’s connection with the region. Paul was seconded to E&Y Santiago, Chile office in 1995 where he worked across the continent for several years gaining a detailed understanding of the mining landscape by serving such clients as Codelco, Enami, ENAP, Placer Dome, Escondida and Falconbridge. Paul is fluent in Spanish and continues to serve many clients with businesses in the region which makes his a regular visitor in particular to Chile, Colombia and Peru. Director - Richard Andrews Cutting Edges Equipment Parts Director - Lyle Bruce Groundprobe Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, B. Engineering. (Hons), Grad Dip Mgment, MBA. F.I.E Aust; C.P. Eng Lyle Bruce has 28 years experience in the mining and mineral processing sector, primarily in the development, application and commercialisation of advanced technologies. Lyle joined GroundProbe in 2003 as CEO to lead the commercialisation phase of the business. Prior to this Lyle held senior roles with MIM and Comalco. His most recent role at MIM was managing the Process Technologies business, developing and commercialising unique technology internationally. Lyle has been a director of GroundProbe since 17 June 2003 and Chairman of each of the subsidiary entities since their creation. Director - Luis Almenara Australia Peru Chamber of Commerce Luis was born in Peru and migrated to Australia in 1970. He has been involved with the investment and corporate finance industry in the areas of management, finance, accounting, administration, personnel and systems for the past 30 years. His professional career includes corporate secretarial, general management and directorship positions at Citibank, Bain & Co (now Deutsche Bank) and ING Investment Management. Currently operates several businesses, including a financial and accounting consultancy firm, is a wholesale importer and licensed wholesale distributor of pisco from Peru. Luis is a Director of several small to medium size companies, responsible for the finance, accounting and related areas. Luis also is involved in several community based activities.
